My experience as the graphic design intern for Career Services was extremely beneficial for me to grow my skills in a professional setting. Below are graphics packages I created for some of the events I was assigned to. A lot of these events were never done before or required brand new designs. Although there were sometimes restrictions with certain design elements such as university branding and ADA compliancy, I was often given creative freedom to choose a professional yet creative style of my own. Seeing my designs displayed around campus in public was such an amazing feeling and I loved making a difference at my school.

Oakland University Career Services Design Work

One of my favorite events I made graphics for was the Portfolio Palooza. This was the first year we hosted this event in collaboration with PRSSA, AWC, The Oakland Post, and my own club, GraphixOU, which is the school graphic design club. At this event we had guests present different types of portfolios to give students a better understanding of where to start for their own.

Probably the largest event I created graphics for was the On-Campus Student employment fair, which highlighted jobs offered by the university on-campus. This event required a lot of different promotional materials such as social media, email banners, posters, flyers, and even table tents. It was really cool to see so many advertisements across campus, and it turned out to be a very successful event.

Another really large event I helped put on was the Diversity Workshop and Mixer presented by Rocket Companies. Again, this topic was super useful and got a lot of attendance from students. This event also had a lot of unique graphics, including the emphasis on ADA compliance. We wanted this DEI event to be extremely aware and thoughtful of all attendees. So, for the design especially, we ensured that the color, contrast, font, and additional graphics were appropriate and inclusive to those with visual impairments.

In collaboration with the marketing intern that I worked alongside, we proposed an idea to host an event called 12 Days of Giveaways on our social media platforms to encourage interaction and increase following on our pages. Over the span of one month, we had collected over 250 new followers across all platforms.
